ABOUT UMTR

ULTIMATE MYANMAR TRAIL RUN

BORN IN MYANMAR. BUILT FOR THE TRAIL.

UMTR — Ultimate Myanmar Trail Run — is a trail running organization and race platform dedicated to developing professional trail running experiences across Myanmar.

We create races that connect runners with Myanmar’s mountains, forests, highlands, rural communities and natural landscapes.

But our ambition goes beyond organizing races. UMTR is building a long-term trail running platform — connecting races, runners, communities, destinations, volunteers, partners and the international trail running world.

 WHO WE ARE

A MYANMAR TRAIL RUNNING PLATFORM

UMTR was created around a simple belief: Myanmar has the landscape, people and potential to become an important trail running destination in Asia.

Across the country are mountain ranges, highland forests, jungle trails, rural paths and communities rarely experienced through conventional travel.

Trail running offers a different way to discover these places. It brings people closer to the terrain, weather, landscape and communities through which they travel.

UMTR exists to develop this opportunity responsibly and professionally.

We bring together race organization, runner services, safety operations, community development, destination discovery and international collaboration under one platform.

 WHY UMTR EXISTS

BUILDING MORE THAN RACES

A successful trail race is not simply a marked route between a start line and a finish line. Reliable race delivery depends on preparation: clear planning, tested systems, trained people, and disciplined execution before race day arrives.

  • Course assessment
  • Route design
  • Trail marking
  • Checkpoint planning
  • Medical coverage
  • Rescue deployment
  • Communications
  • Timing
  • Volunteer coordination
  • Community engagement

UMTR is committed to developing these elements systematically. Our purpose is not only to create exciting races. Our purpose is to help build the infrastructure, knowledge, people and standards required for trail running to grow sustainably in Myanmar.

UMTR operates across multiple areas of trail running.

  • TRAIL RACES

Developing events across different distances and levels of difficulty — from accessible trail races to longer endurance and ultra-distance challenges.

  • COURSE DEVELOPMENT

Assessing and designing routes around distance, elevation, terrain, checkpoints, access, safety and runner experience.

  • RACE OPERATIONS

Coordinating timing, checkpoints, logistics, volunteers, communications and race-day operations.

  • SAFETY & RESCUE

Working with medical professionals, rescue organizations and operational teams to develop medical coverage, emergency procedures, evacuation planning and race-day command systems.

  • RUNNER SERVICES

Developing a connected platform for registration, bib information, results, race photography, certificates and runner history.

  • COMMUNITY

Supporting trail culture beyond race day through community runs, training, volunteering and shared outdoor experiences.

  • DESTINATIONS

Using trail running to introduce runners to different parts of Myanmar while building positive connections with local communities.

OUR FLAGSHIP RACE

PYIN OO LWIN JUNGLE TRAIL

POLJT

PYIN OO LWIN • MYANMAR

Pyin Oo Lwin Jungle Trail — POLJT — is UMTR’s flagship trail running event and one of the clearest examples of what we are building.

Set in the highland environment of Pyin Oo Lwin, POLJT takes runners through forest trails, mountain terrain and the distinctive landscapes surrounding the destination.

The race combines trail running with the character of the place itself.

Cooler highland conditions, forest environments, changing terrain and local communities all contribute to the identity of POLJT.

But POLJT is more than a race course. It is where many of UMTR’s principles come together in practice:

  • Course design.
  • Runner experience.
  • Checkpoint operations.
  • Timing.
  • Medical coverage.
  • Rescue planning.
  • Race communications.
  • Volunteer coordination.
  • Local community participation.
  • Photography and storytelling.
  • Runner results and post-race services.

POLJT gives UMTR a real environment in which to develop, test and improve the systems required to deliver professional trail races in Myanmar.
